History and values

Svalbard Auto is the world’s northernmost car dealership, gas station and car repair shop. You can find us easily accessible in Sjøområdet in Longyearbyen.

Svalbard Auto was founded in 1998 and is owned by LNS Spitsbergen. Today, the Auto has about 15 employees who work in the fields of new car sales, rental cars, large and small car workshops and gas station operations. All of our employees have high expertise in their field, and can help you with most things when it comes to cars and workshop services. We share our parent company’s values: Teamwork, Solution-oriented, Humor and Competence. We always want to offer you as a customer what you need – whether it’s fuel, workshop services, a new car, a rental car or a hot cup of coffee!

History of the LNS group

Leonhard Nilsen & Sønner (LNS) was established in 1961 by Malvin Nilsen and his father Leonhard Nilsen. Since its establishment, the company has grown from a traditional, northern Norwegian family business to a group that in 2024 consists of 14 companies.

The path to the group we see today, with approximately 750 employees and a turnover of around 2.7 billion, has been exciting, with many milestones.

The head office of LNS is located in Strandland in Andøy and the group’s projects can be found in Norway, Antarctica, Hong Kong, Chile, and on Svalbard, Greenland and the Faroe Islands. In other words, LNS spans from the North Pole to the South Pole.

Our global operations are feasible because we are good at seeing and creating opportunities. We are reliable, with our feet firmly planted on northern Norwegian soil, while at the same time being brave, innovative and willing to take on exciting projects regardless of geographical location.
